A couple of years ago when I first decided I wanted to tackle running (and more specifically the Gate River Run), I stumbled across the phrase "Carpe Viem" in an article in Runner's World. To my surprise, that short little phrase became a driving force in my psyche that year and I ran two 15ks, the Gate River Run was the first and then we tackled the Minnie Marathon at Epcot.
After a year break (with wedding planning, honeymooning, graduations and moving across the state), Chris and I are once again ready to take up the challenge inherent in that phrase and let it lead us to another year of exciting experiences.
We began training in earnest for our first big race of 2010, the Gate River Run which will be held on March 13th of next year. That gives us 87 days to work up to a 9.5 mile run. I'm excited (and slightly anxious) about meeting our goal, but we've done it before. It's just going to take some dedication.
Our first training run was on Tuesday night, in wonderful weather that turned (quite unexpectedly) into rain. I don't know about you, but it's been awhile since I had any occasion to go cavorting in the rain and I have to say I rather enjoyed the experience. :)
Last night was our second day and my muscles are feeling the results of that run today. (But that's the point, right?) At any rate, I feel like we're off to a great start and I'm looking forward to our progress.
Wish us luck!
